Handcooked Studios features the work of Stirling-based graphic designer Douglas Walker. With over 30 years of design & print industry experience, work across all areas of graphic design is undertaken, although two particular areas of specialism are the design/screen-printing of gig posters and website design & development.
Alongside these specialist areas, general graphic design work comprises a large part of the work done at Handcooked Studios – logo design, leaflets, brochures, exhibition graphics, signage, posters, graphics for web & social media and branding projects are all examples of work recently done.
Working with clients across a variety of different industries and business sizes (from large plc’s all the way through to small music festivals), my aim is to provide a friendly, efficient, client-focused design service which more than meets whatever your requirements are.
A love of music, graphic design & screen-printing could only ever mean one thing… gig posters!
I design and screen-print officially-commissioned art prints (gig posters) which are sold at concerts as part of a band’s merchandise range – producing work for Idlewild, Admiral Fallow and Fatherson amongst others.
These prints are produced in limited edition runs – each uniquely designed & hand-printed, and individually signed & numbered.
Along with printing my own design work, I also undertake commercial screen-printing (as long as it all fits in to a basic remit of being music or arts-based) – producing record sleeves, gig posters, art prints and album inserts for Mogwai, Merchandise For Life, Fatcat Records, O-Merch and The Twilight Sad.
Website design has been an ever-growing area within my design work, and with the need to create responsive sites that work effectively across desktops, tablets and smartphones, it’s an area of work I enjoy more than ever (always being one for a challenge!).
I design & build websites using WordPress and implement many industry best practices within my web work – combining a designer’s eye for detail & visual approach along with a good, solid technical knowledge of working within the WordPress environment for developing and building websites.
Usability, site speed, security, site management & search engine optimisation are all fundamental considerations within website design – and these are all areas that are addressed as standard, not as extras.
“Douglas is brilliant to work with. I’ve worked with many designers over the years and at times the challenge can be translating what’s in my head into a brief the designer can understand. Douglas has a cool, calm style and easy way of communicating that means before you know it, he understands what it is you’re trying to achieve – and off he goes and does it.
What impresses me most is that he never lets me down, he’s never late with concepts or finished work and if he has had trouble behind the scenes, I’ve never been aware of it. Everything looks great. Everything hits the mark. Can’t ask for better than that.”
